Banana Loaf with Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chips and Nutella Swirl

Wow, that’s a mouthful of a title for this delicious loaf! But I figure it’s always good to be descriptive, so there you go. And I know, I know. I’m only like eleven posts in, and I’m already making very similar things, Nutella blah blah, banana again?? But this is worth it, trust me! So yes, I’ve made banana nutella chocolate chip muffins before, one of my all time favorites. But they’re not the most attractive muffins in the world (you know, that alluring brown color is not everyone’s favorite), so I wanted to play up the flavors into something a bit more attractive. That’s right, I judged my muffins and they weren’t pretty enough for me, so decided to make this, the fancier sister. The Sansa-like loaf compared to the Arya muffins (gratuitous Game of Thrones reference!). 🙂 I adapted a recipe by adding chocolate and peanut butter chips to this outstanding loaf, and brought it to a dinner party. At said dinner party, I probably received the greatest compliment from a friend…”Well, this is definitely the greatest thing I’ve had in LIberia in a year!” So, go ahead and make this yourself, and prepare to wow your friends. IMG_3667 Banana Loaf with Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chips and Nutella Swirl Recipe adapted from Barbara Bakes 4 small very ripe bananas, mashed with a fork – if your bananas are not ripe enough, you can heat them in the microwave for about 10 seconds and they should be good to go 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup sour cream 1/4 cup butter, melted 2 eggs 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt about 1/2 cup Nutella – no one judges if you add more!  1 cup chocolate and peanut butter chips – I used a specific bag from Toll House that mixed the two – you can buy them separately as well, and add about 1/2 cup of each Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit / 178 degrees celsius. In a bowl, add the mashed bananas, brown sugar, sour cream, melted butter, and 2 eggs. Beat with a hand mixer or in the bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed until the items are well mixed. In a separate bowl, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, and whisk together. Add the flour mixture to the banana mixture, and mix until the ingredients are just combined. Butter your loaf pan and sprinkle a tiny bit of flour on top of the butter. Then, using a spoon, add half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Add about 1/4 cup of Nutella to the batter, and using a butter knife swirl the Nutella in with the batter to make patterns or anything your heart desires. Add the remaining batter on top, and then add the remaining 1/4 cup Nutella. Use the knife again to swirl.

Bake in the oven for 1 hour and 5 minutes, or until you can stick a toothpick into the loaf and it comes out clean. Allow to cool, and then serve and enjoy! IMG_3756
